A new Type 3 from the innovating Belgium brand is the Ressence Type 3 BB2, meaning the Black Black 2. This is a follow up of the Type 3 BBB that was released in 2022, also very black. It expands the series with this full black version after the Ressence Type 3 EE Eucalyptus for instance. So, basically, only the color scheme is new. Which doesn’t make this new one less interesting.
All the rotating parts, driven by oil pressure, are simply fascinating. Yes, you need to get used to the layout of the dial and the way you can read the time. But once you have calibrated your brain to the rather unusual way of showing the time on three independent discs, it will work smoothly.
Rotating discs rotate in a rotating disc
The large rotating disc, almost the whole dial, shows the minutes, and within this disc the hours and small seconds are rotating. Where the small seconds have a 180-second scale. And there is a small sub dial showing the oil temperature. Something you would never want to know, but hey, the fact that is shows is already great.
And don’t forget this watch also indicates the date, on the flange of the dial. The matt black DLC coated grade 5 titanium case is rounded by double domed sapphire crystal. Which sits on the front and on the back. Winding and setting the watch can be done at the back, there is no crown.
The Ressence Type 3 BB2 has a power reserve of 36 hours
The movement of this Ressence Type 3 BB2 is an adjusted ETA caliber 2824-2 with an extra module developed by the brand. This is the Ressence ROCS 3.5 (Ressence Orbital Convex System) with a so called compensated bellows system for the oil and a magnetic transmission system. Its power reserve is 36 hours.
The watch comes on a black honeycomb strap with titanium ardillon buckle.
