A new McLaren supercar means a new watch dedicated to that car, this is the Richard Mille RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph McLaren W1. It is more or less the same watch as the Richard Mille RM 65-01 Automatic Winding Split-seconds Chronograph in blue and yellow. But now adjusted to the McLaren brand. Which means lots of “papaya” orange, combined with blue and yellow to enhance the readability of the timepiece.

The 44 x 49.9-millimeter tripartite case is from carbon TPT, an extra strong variant of carbon while keeping the lightweight properties of the material. The dial is skeletonized with skeletonized steel-ish hour and minute hands with a yellow luminescent tip. The small seconds on a sub dial at the 6 o’clock position are also executed in yellow.

Double chronograph function

The date is displayed in a vertical aperture at the 11 o’clock position, but the main attraction is the split-seconds chronograph. Also known as a rattrapante chronograph. The two hands in grey, one with blue tip and one with orange tip, can time multiple events simultaneously. And up to 1/10th of a second. Most ideal when those events start at the same time but do not finish together.

There is an orange-white sub dial with 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and an orange-white 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. Furthermore, a function selector for Winding, Date and Hand Setting functions. And a blue tachymeter scale at the flange of the dial.

The Richard Mille RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph McLaren W1 has a power reserve of 60 hours

The movement of the Richard Mille RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph McLaren W1 is the Richard Mille caliber RMAC4. It has a rapid winding system to recharged the power reserve of 60 hours in a few pushes. With the push piece at 8 o’clock, from orange Quartz TPT.

The baseplate and the bridges of this automatic movement are from grade 5 titanium, with sand-blasted and rhodium-plated beveled wheels. Among a long list of finish techniques that can justify the price level of around plus 300,000 excluding taxes a bit. The watch comes on a rubber papaya orange strap or a black rubber strap, and it is limited to 500 pieces.
