The Romain Jerome RJ X Pokémon is not a real surprise given the fact that the Swiss watchmaker came up with more weird models. Think Super Mario, Batman, Apollo 11, Titanic and no one less than Pacman.
When you enter the world of watchmaking, like the Swiss watchmaking company Romain Jerome did in 2004, you better make sure you have a solid USP that makes you stand out from the crowd. For Romain Jerome it was among other things creating watches honouring legends and icons like Super Mario, Batman or Pokémon. You might wonder how many adult men would take pride in wearing a 20k watch featuring a game character on their wrist? Well, maybe that’s the reason Romain Jerome works with limited editions. So, twenty pieces for the Pokémon watch should do it.
The Romain Jerome RJ X Pokémon has the Nintendo creature Pikachu on its dial
Pokémon is originally a game for the Game Boy, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. Nowadays it contains several video games and anime series. After the suddenly exploded Pokémon popularity because of a smartphone app, having Pikachu (one of the most popular Pokémon characters) shining on the dial might sell. The bright yellow character is depicted on a black DLC coated satin-brushed and sand-blasted dial. It is is engraved with Pikachu’s Electric-type pattern.
For the Pokémon virgins among you: the name Pikachu comes from the Japanese ‘pika’ meaning ‘volt’ or ‘shock’. And ‘chu’ refers to the squeaking sound a mouse makes. One of Pikachu’s powers is that this little monster can electrify stuff through its red cheeks. Right. Back to reality: the black PVD coated titanium case measures 46 millimeters.
The watch is limited to 20 pieces
Romain Jerome took their Moon Invader model for this creative collaboration. Characteristic for this model are the ball and socket lugs. With these lugs the designers refer to a lunar lander – the inspiration for this watch. Because of these lugs the vulcanised rubber straps of the watch are tied to your wrist smoothly.
At the stellar-patterned case back Romain Jerome printed the Pokémon logo and it tells you which number of the 20 pieces you’re wearing on your wrist. Twenty game crazy guys who are willing to pay 20,000 for the Romain Jerome X Pokémon watch? We’ve seen weirder stuff.
