The Speake Marin Openworked Tourbillon Ultra Violet is part of a collection of skeletonized watches by the brand. It’s called the One & Two Openworked collection. And this purple model is the fifth model with this specific design. But where the other four only have gold and/or grey and black tones, this Ultra Violet brings some extra color with it.
Although the background of some of the pictures suggest a psychedelic pallet of purple, it’s the grid of the rhodium-plated dial that has ultra-violet PVD coating. Which makes the colorful touch very subtle. The model is available in 38 of 42 millimeters, the first limited to 4 pieces, the second is limited to 5 pieces.
Piccadilly case
To underline Speake Marin has British origins the case is Piccadilly styled, named after the Piccadilly area in London. People talk about a Piccadilly case when the design is round, mostly perfectly circular, and classic, clean, and slim. Well, and when it comes from the UK. For this Speake Marin Openworked Tourbillon Ultra Violet it is made from grade 5 titanium.
The luminescent rhodium-plated hands are heart-shaped and have a blue glow. Around the open-worked dial is minute flange with light grey indices with super-luminova and blue lightning at the 5-minute intervals. The tourbillon sits between the 1 and 2 o’clock position and between 7 and 8 is a power reserve indicator with a triangular pointer with super-luminova.
The Speake Marin Openworked Tourbillon Ultra Violet has a power reserve of 72 hours
An automatic Speake Marin caliber SMA05 is driving the timepiece. It has a black rhodium-plated and micro-beaded main plate. The bridges are also black rhodium-plated with beveled edges, and have Côtes de Genève stripes. The central open-worked bridge has black PVD coating with 5N gold-plated engravings. The power reserve is 72 hours, the micro-rotor with laser-engraved concentric circle pattern loads the barrel. The rotor is made from tungsten, one of the heaviest and hardest metals on the planet.
The Speake Marin Openworked Tourbillon Ultra Violet comes on a black rubber strap. It is secured with a grade 5 titanium pin buckle with embellished logo. The prices mentioned are for the 38-millimeter version, however the 42-millimeter is only about 500 more expensive.
