The Speake-Marin Promenade à New York is a unique creation from the brand’s Art Series. It is designed specifically for the TimeForArt charity auction, held by the Swiss Institute of New York. The auction is part of the Phillips New York Watch Auction which will be held on the 7th of December 2024.
The Promenade à New York is inspired by the personal experiences of Speake-Marin’s President, Christelle Rosnoblet, during her time in New York. It shows a hand-painted New York scenery with great details (spot the squirrel). A showcase of artistic craftsmanship representing a fusion of fine watchmaking and contemporary art.
New York’s Central Park on the dial
This Speake Marin features a 42-millimeter Piccadilly case made from grade 5 titanium with a brushed middle section and a flared, grooved crown. The dial is mother-of-pearl on a rhodium-plated dial base. It is hand-painted with a scene depicting New York’s Central Park, including the famous Gapstow Bridge. Colorful, unique, remembering Rosnoblet’s leisurely Sunday walks.
The micro-painting takes about 100 hours. On top are steel diamond-polished and rhodium-plated hands with a heart-shaped tip for the hour hand, a tribute to the brand’s British roots. A strange feature is the small seconds at the 1:30 position, represented by a rhodium-plated and polished hand in the shape of a topping tool. Which were used to alter the profile of teeth on wheels, and it echoes the Maison’s logo.
The Speake Marin Promenade à New York has a power reserve of 52 hours
The watch is powered by Speake-Marin’s in-house caliber SMA03, a self-winding movement with an integrated Tungsten micro-rotor. It offers a 52-hour power reserve when fully wound. The movement is finished with the main plate featuring a circular-grained finish, while the bridges are adorned with the traditional Côtes de Genève pattern.
For the strap, Speake-Marin has chosen taupe leather with an orange lining, which adds a subtle contrast. The strap is secured with a titanium pin buckle, engraved with the brand’s logo. The estimated auction price for this one-off piece is between CHF 40,000 and CHF 80,000, placing it among high-end art-inspired watches.
