The Stowa Marine Bronze Vintage 40 Black is the newest creation of the Marine Family by the renewed German brand. A subtle ‘observation’ watch that goes back to Stowa’s first Marine model that was originally launched in 1939. Naval activities, already practiced in the 1700s, are more successful when exact timing and positioning is part of the planning. Captains often used very precise deck clocks in the early days, later switching to reliable pocket watches and wrist watches. Which was taken up by Stowa just before the Second World War started.

Today’s new model comes with a 40-millimeter bronze case and is quite slender with a thickness of 9.20 millimeters. It has a plain black dial with Arabic numerals as hour markers printed in gray beige. The steel browned hour and minute hands from a perfect match with the case.

Some watch enthusiasts prefer automatic calibers, and some would rather have a hand-wound movement. Well, Stowa offers both for the Marine Bronze Vintage 40 Black. You can buy it either equipped with an automatic Sellita SW200 or with a hand-wound Sellita SW210. On Stowa’s website there are options to choose which one you like, and you can even go for an automatic with “top finish”. Which makes sense to do as the case back is transparent.

The Bronze Vintage 40 Black comes on a simple black leather strap with a pin buckle, or change it to a matt black croc strap. The three movement options nor the two strap options are not documented in reference numbers.
