This Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Blue Lagoon is the second 2024 model of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms look-a-like. Which brings the total of available colors to seven. The theme is Blue Lagoon and refers to Blancpain’s passion for underwater exploration and environmental conservation.

Blancpain introduced the Fifty Fathoms collection in 1953, being one of the companies to lay a foundation for modern diver’s watches. Created in response to the demands of professional divers, the model set benchmarks for water resistance, readability, and robustness. Swatch’s reinterpretation brings these iconic design principles to a new audience, using (some) sustainable materials and simple technology while paying tribute to the original model.

It’s All Turquoise-Blue

This new Blue Lagoon execution features a 42.3-millimeter case, now in turquoise-blue. Still with a bioceramic case and with the same size as the other Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms models. So, with a lug-to-lug distance of 48.0 millimeters and a thickness of 14.4 millimeters. This bioceramic material combines ceramic and bio-sourced castor oil, providing durability and scratch resistance. The bezel and crown are also from the same material.

The dial is sun-brushed turquoise-blue and displays clear legibility with dark blue and white accents, the bezel has a darker blue hue. It’s unidirectional rotating adding some functionality. Super-luminova treated hour markers, hands, and bezel scale provide good readability in low-light conditions. The dial includes a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock.

SISTEM51 Movement

Like all Scuba Fifty Fathoms this Blue Lagoon also houses The ETA SISTEM51 mechanical movement. Just 51 parts, anchored by a central screw, with a 90-hour power reserve. Hardly serviceable, just swap it when it brakes, although that won’t happen if you treat it in a normal way. The movement is also anti-magnetic, thanks to the Nivachron hairspring, enhancing precision under varying conditions.

This SISTEM51 debuted in 2013, revolutionizing watchmaking with its fully automated assembly. The sapphire glass case back reveals the intricacies of this mechanical movement. Here surrounded by motivational inscriptions like “Passion for Diving” and “Protect What You Love” plus a blue lagoon illustration. The watch comes on a matching two-piece NATO-style strap.

Its design is great, it comes close to the originals like this Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1. The huge success of the Omega x Swatch Bioceramic Moonswatch tells everyone that making a plastic copy of a legend isn’t a crime, although this Scuba Fifty Fathoms is not as successful.
