Yet another Moonswatch, this is the Omega x Swatch Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to Earthphase. And apart from its chronograph and double moon phase, it has a special feature, again: an earth phase indicator. It shows what the earth looks like when you are on the moon. Which is pretty cool and useless at the same time. As most of us will never be on the moon…

What it shows is a “new earth”, the equivalent of a full moon. Just like the moon rotating around the earth in approximately 29.5 days, it’s also the other way around if you are on the moon. The earth rotates around the moon in approximately 29.5 days.

Colored earth including glowing oceans

The case of this Mission to Earthphase is just like all other Omega x Swatch Bioceramic Moonswatch models: 42 plastic millimeters, and here in grey. New is a grey dial, with a black minute/second track. The small seconds are at the 6 o’clock position, there are no chronograph counters anymore due to the moon phases and earth phase.

The earth is depicted in color, and the oceans are coated with UV ink. That emits a blue glow under UV light, although we wonder how many times you will walk under UV light. Anyway, an image of the moon can be found on the battery cover, the footprint of Neil Armstrong—the first man to set foot there—included.

The battery of the Omega x Swatch Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to Earthphase lasts about 38 months

Inside this Omega x Swatch Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to Earthphase is an ETA quartz movement. With an estimated battery life of about 38 months. It’s easy to switch, but don’t go under water with the watch.

This Earthphase comes on a black Velcro (one size) strap with light grey stitching, and the price has gone up a bit. It all started just under 300, now it is 325 in US dollars and 330 euros. Still not very expensive for the functionality it offers, but keep in mind it’s very vulnerable to scratches and the crystal easily cracks as it is not sapphire.
