The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 is for Porsche and Le Mans fans as it underlines the connection between the two brands. And they both use the name Carrera, coming from the legendary Carrera Panamericana race. But this new model is about Le Mans, where Porsche is the most successful manufacturer with 19 overall wins ever.
This year’s special Porsche model, among lots of 911’s, is the Porsche 963 that has its “street” origins in the Porsche 918 Spyder. Now, this new TAG Heuer model is linked to that car but also to other Porsche models. So, all kind of details and design features have something with Porsche.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 has a power reserve of 80 hours
Like the sub dials with four super-luminova blocks, that refer the LED headlights on the 911. The red indexes on the edge of the open-worked dial at the 4 o’clock position symbolize the starting time of the Le Mans race, exactly at 4 o’clock. Moreover, the skeleton dial has tubular shapes reminiscent of Porsche’s racing car chassis and so on. Far-sighted? Yes. But nevertheless, it’s a good looking chronograph with clear racing connections.
This new Carrera drives on the TAG Heuer caliber Heuer 02 reference TH20-00. It sports a column wheel chronograph, with three registers, and a date, which can be partly seen working through the open dial and transparent case back.
There is a Porsche logo on the bezel and on the band
The case itself measures 44 millimeters and is made from fine brushed steel and a black PVD band, the bezel is from forged carbon. This also bears the Porsche logo, which can also be found at the case band.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 comes on a black integrated rubber strap, with “963” engraved on a steel central link. It is secured with a steel folding clasp with double safety pushbuttons. The watch is limited to 963 pieces. You know why.
