The TAG Heuer Connected Rose Gold raises some questions. Why launching a golden smartwatch when Apple stopped producing their golden Apple watch? And if you are looking for a smartwatch, would you buy a TAG Heuer? And what about the fact that you can exchange your Connected watch for a mechanical TAG Heuer Carrera after two years? So many questions.
Let’s start with the watch itself. The new solid rose gold model has the same functions as the original titanium model launched in November 2015. Let’s quickly refresh your memory. TAG Heuer teamed up with Google and Intel Inside to create a watch that combines traditional Swiss watchmaking with some Silicon Valley geekiness. With the Connected watch the TAG Heuer defines the looks and Silicon Valley claims the brains. The Connected watch looks like a chronograph. With three sub displays on the traditional looking dial at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock where you can display your favourite apps.

The watch features an Intel Atom processor Z34XX and runs the Android Wear platform. It has multiple connectivity options including audio streaming, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. As long as you are connected to Wi-Fi the watch connects to the cloud. When no connection is available the resident applications (music, timer, alarm, step counter) stay active. And Apple fans, don’t worry, the watch is compatible with every iPhone running iOS 8.2 or higher.
The TAG Heuer Connected Rose Gold has a 46-millimeters case. A lithium battery promises to get you through the day without charging. Via the small microphone you can communicate with the watch and operate it by using Google Voice control. You can also use the sapphire crystal touch screen and the command push button at 3 o’clock. The watch (which is IP67-certified) is designed to be water-resistant for everyday wear.
Don’t like it? Exchange it for a mechanical TAG
So the question remains: why would a traditional Swiss watchmaker try to compete with a tech giant like Apple? Well, basically they’re not. For TAG Heuer their Connected watch is a way to reach a younger customer base and lure these tech savvy consumers into the world of mechanical watchmaking. This is exactly why they came up with an unique deal.
Every Connected Rose Gold watch owner can exchange his watch for a mechanical TAG Heuer Carrera (Calibre 5) after two years (TAG Heuer’s standard warranty period). If they pay $ 1,500 extra. It’s a watch with a similar design and especially designed for Connected watch owners. A deal Steve Jobs would certainly have liked.
