A new color for the Monaco, this is the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green. The Swiss brand connects the racing green with the traditional racing colors of countries. So, with the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Blue Limited Edition from last year we can check off blue (France), which means we can still expect a red (Italy) and white or silver (Germany).

And perhaps TAG Heuer even goes further as white with a red sun are the colors for Japan, and white with blue Cunningham stripes for America. And what about mid blue with a lower yellow band and yellow wheels? Thailand. Can you guess blue with a white stripe? Unofficial, but Scotland.

Max Verstappen connection

Moreover, as long as Formula One driver Max Verstappen is racing for Red Bull, TAG Heuer might as well create an orange Monaco. As it is the Dutch racing color. Anyway, for now it’s green, known as British racing green. And Verstappen wears it. Wikipedia has a nice list of international auto racing colors if you want to know more about that topic.

Just like last year’s blue Monaco its diameter is 39 millimeters, similar to the original Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 Automatic Chronograph. Which is the reference 1133B from 1969. It’s the one American actor and racing enthusiast Steve McQueen wore in the 1971 movie Le Mans. Which has a cool reissue with this 2015 TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 Automatic Chronograph for instance. But back to this green Monaco.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green has a power reserve of 40 hours

The case is from grade 2 titanium, the crown and pushers as well, and the case back has a sapphire porthole to admire the rather traditional TAG Heuer caliber 11. Or Calibre 11 as they say. It’s a dated yet proven movement with a Dubois Dépraz chronograph module, based on the 2011 Sellita caliber SW300. And it is kind of a hallmark for the Monaco, so it’s good to leave that unchanged.

The dial is sunray brushed silver, with opaline green sub dials in the traditional Monaco layout. Small seconds at the 3 o’clock position, a small date window at 6 and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 9. The 12-hour marker is yellow, just like the chronograph seconds hand. The lume on the large rhodium plated hands is blue and light green on the hour dots.

This Monaco is topped off with a green, perforated calfskin leather strap. It is secured with a titanium folding clasp with double safety push-buttons. The price tag of the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green is nearly 10k and the model is limited to 1,000 pieces.
