With the TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph the Swiss brands enters the six figures price range with their iconic square model. Last year they presented a first version of this technically advanced automatic rattrapante chronograph. This was the TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph for Only Watch, that should have been auctioned last year but the Only Watch 2023 event was postponed. And will take place at the 10th of May 2024.

However, the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph comes in reach of a somewhat larger audience, despite the price. The model celebrates the Monaco’s 55th anniversary and marks a new chapter since its initial debut in 1969. At the time it was the first water resistant chronograph wristwatch, and it became legendary because founder Jack Heuer had a strong marketing drive. So, a number of Formula One racers as well as actors could be seen wearing a Heuer watch, even so a Heuer Monaco.

Blue as a reference to the Monaco’s original color

The TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph comes in two versions: red and blue, which refers to the blue color scheme of the first Monaco. This time it is housed in a 41-millimeter fined brushed titanium case, with black DLC coating for the red version.

The dial is from sapphire crystal, giving an open-worked effect in order to see a part of the mechanics inside. So, you can see the working of the two separate concurrent timing options. There are two central chronograph seconds hands to do the two timing sessions simultaneously. Switching is possible with the pusher at 9 o’clock, and there are small seconds running at 6.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph has a power reserve of 65 hours

Inside beats the automatic TAG Heuer Caliber TH81-00 which can also be admired through its sapphire case back. The entire mechanism is crafted in titanium, which makes it the lightest automatic chronograph movements TAG Heuer ever produced. The power reserve with the chronograph off is 65 hours, if you switch the chrono on, it’s 55 hours.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph comes on a red or blue calfskin leather strap. It has a titanium butterfly folding clasp with pin buckle and safety push-buttons, and with black DLC for the red version.
