The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer is a new round-shaped carbon and bolder version of the Monza model. This line, which is not prominent anymore on TAG’s website, is inspired by motorsport heritage. It was introduced in 1976 to celebrate Niki Lauda’s 1975 F1 World Championship, Lauda’s first out of three.
The watch is named after an Italian town with a famous race track where one of the races of the Formula 1 still takes place. Lauda won Monza in 1978 and 1984 by the way. Racing is where the brand’s roots are, shouldn’t you already know with model names like Carrera, Formula 1 and Monaco. Maybe this Flyback Chronometer brings the Monza line back on track. Which, according to TAG, almost got the name ‘Modena’. That is the home town of Ferrari. And since 1971 Heuer was the official time keeper of the famous Italian brand. It all makes sense.
A Monza in Red Bull colors
Today TAG Heuer is the official timekeeper of Red Bull Racing in the Formula One. So the colors of this watch correspond with the colors of Red Bull and the RB F1 team. This producer of sugary energy drinks is all about bright blue and red, which you will find on the dial of the new Monza.
This new Monza is executed in a 42-millimeter ultra-lightweight carbon case and features a black skeletonized dial. At 3 and 6 o’clock there are the chronograph counters in translucent fumé blue sapphire crystal. The dial has blue lacquered indexes, and black and white lacquered hours and minutes hands with super-luminova. There is also a tiny date window with super-luminova placed at 9 o’clock, a rather unusual place but why not? The tachymeter scale indicates speeds kilometers and miles and there is a pulsometer to measure heartrates.
The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer has a power reserve of 80 hours
The automatic TAG Heuer caliber Heuer 02 equipped with a flyback chronograph movement runs this Monza. The flyback function offers the option to reset the chronograph seamlessly without stopping it. It enhances timekeeping efficiently, ensuring quicker and more precise measurements. Moreover, this caliber is also COSC certified and delivers a power reserve of 80 hours.
The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer comes on a black textile strap with blue stitching and black textile lining. And it has a carbon folding clasp with double safety push buttons.
