The Ulysse Nardin Freak One Navy Blue is the latest model in the renowned Freak collection that debuted in 2001 and is known for breaking traditional watch design boundaries. With the “no dial, hands, or crown” setup, the Freak collection has become an innovative line in contemporary watchmaking.
This Freak One Navy Blue has a flying carousel movement, using the movement itself to indicate the time. This model also uses an oversized silicon oscillator, a signature feature of the collection. With its deep blue color scheme, the Freak One Navy Blue connects Ulysse Nardin’s maritime history with its technological advancements.
Titanium case
The case of the Freak One Navy Blue is made from titanium and coated with black DLC. It has a diameter of 44 centimeters and is topped with a Carbonium bezel, a material Ulysse Nardin introduced in 2019.
The material, made from carbon fiber offcuts from the aviation industry, is known for its strength and lightweight. The dark, rugged look of the case pairs well with the deep blue color accents seen on the dial and movement.
The Ulysse Nardin Freak One Navy Blue has a power reserve of 90 hours
The movement of the Ulysse Nardin Freak One Navy Blue is visible under the sapphire crystal, which provides a clear view of the innovative design. There is no traditional dial, as the movement itself indicates the time. The minute hand is formed by the flying carrousel, and a rotating disc with a sunray pattern represents the hour.
Inside is the Ulysse Nardin caliber UN-240, an automatic movement equipped with the Grinder winding system. This system is more efficient than traditional winding systems, ensuring maximum energy capture. The setting device is recessed into the case back, so there is no crown. The watch has a power reserve of 90 hours, allowing for several days of operation without the need for winding. The use of silicon and DiamonSil, a mix of synthetic diamond and silicon, in the escapement improves the movement’s reliability and durability.
The Freak One Navy Blue is available with two different rubber strap options: a ballistic-textured strap in blue and black or a two-tone blue and grey strap. Both are made from 30 percent recycled production waste. The strap is secured with a deployant buckle in black DLC-coated titanium and ceramic.
