Not quite one of the big guys, but a brand that ultimately deserves your attention if you appreciate mechanical watches.  One of their newest creations is the Ulysse Nardin Marine Annual Calendar Chronograph.

If you are a regular reader, then you have probably come across some of their new Marine models and you are familiar with their seafaring heritage. But for the uninitiated: Ever since 1846 captains and naval commanders refer to Ulysse Nardin for marine chronometers.

So, with that out of the way, what are we working with? Inside the Marine Annual Calendar Chronograph we find an in-house caliber UN-153, with a power-reserve of 52 hours. A great movement, and so looks its housing.

The Ulysse Nardin Marine Annual Calendar Chronograph features an enamel dial

As you would expect from an Ulysse Nardin, the dial is not just any ordinary silvered dial, but a Grand Feu enamel dial. Created by Ulysse Nardin in-house enamel specialists at Donzé Cadrans. The result is a pale milky color after using the enameling technique which dates back to the 17th century.

On this sleek dial there is a two-counter chronograph, a month counter at 9 o’clock that’s combined with the small seconds. The chronograph 30-minute counter is at 3 o’clock, while a round date at 6 o’clock boast the admirable quick set function. Easily adjustable both forwards and backwards.

The Ulysse Nardin Marine Annual Calendar Chronograph is a worthy addition to the already established Marine Chronometer Manufacture from 2012 and the Marine Chronograph Manufacture from 2013. And perfectly in line with what Ulysse Nardin wants to come out of their Le Locle headquarters: a watch that combines in-house production, technical know-how and historical craftsmanship.
