When you mix a Reverso with a prehistoric turtle and some modern toys you get this: the Urwerk UR-T8. It’s a transformable and reversible watch and it looks remarkable. And it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the brand.
The case is built into a cradle and pushing some buttons unlocks the case. Then you can flip it over and click it back into the cradle with the back case, which is a titanium shield, on top. ‘It then becomes a mystery object on your wrist’, Urwerk tells us in their press release. It surely is, given its size of almost 50 x 60 millimeters, its textured pattern on the black PVD coated cover and a very little glimpse of the movement.
You can’t see the time, so the best thing you can do, is to flip it back again. No, it’s not functional at all and you probably use it once or twice to show others what your watch can do. And then they tell you you’re a kind of weirdo with a roasted mini turtle on his wrist.
The Urwerk UR-T8 has a very attractive mechanism to show the time
Back to the side where you can read the time, because that’s the interesting part. The Urwerk UR-T8 has wandering hours, which means that the hours float around the dial and tell you the time when they reach a certain point. On the right side of the dial there is a minute scale. A three-armed carousel supports three satellite carousels each bearing four hour numerals. A planetary gearing transforms a tangle of wheels, screws and jewel bearings and creates the wandering hours. Watch the video below the specs and you will immediately understand the attractive mechanism.
The Urwerk UR-T8 is rather ugly and catchy at the same time. The transformable part is completely useless and pointless. Even if you are a paleontologist. The mechanism and design alone are powerful enough to be unique and surprising. If you want one, you can choose between a fully black PVD version or a bicolor version with natural titanium and PVD. Both versions are limited to 30 pieces.
