The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Self-winding Pink Gold / Black Dial goes back to the 1950s according to the brand. With its “aesthetics”, and with the brand’s “Maltese cross emblem”, they say. Let’s not argue the farsighted marketing elements of these references but enjoy this cool dress watch, now available in 40-millimeter pink gold with a black dial. And yes, when you squint, it looks a bit like the reference 6073 from 1956. Which classic dress watch doesn’t?
The black dial has two sections: the center has an opaline finish, the chapter ring with the numerals around it has a sunburst finish. The white interrupted railway track separates them. And on the flange of the dial is white minutes / seconds track. So, a typical so called sector dial. Hands, numerals and indexes are executed in rose gold, with blue luminova on the indexes and hands. Another nice detail is the date window at 3, on the railway track, with a black background.

Where you normally expect a glossy black leather strap, this Fiftysix comes on an anthracite nubuck calfskin leather strap with calfskin lining and ecru stitching, Looks way better, and way more modern. The pin buckle is also from pink gold, and polished and half Maltese cross-shaped.
