The Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers Malte Tourbillon – Tribute to Haussmannian style also belongs to the new Les Cabinotiers – Récits de Voyages collection. VC unveils these watches to mark their successive worldwide expedition in extending their business which started already in the early days of the brand. This time the journey goes to Paris, where Vacheron Constantin has their own representative since the 1820s.

This new Les Cabinotiers Malte Tourbillon pays a tribute to Haussmannian style. Which is a design that refers to the classic Parisian style of the 19th-century. When you know Paris, and walk around there, this style is still visible almost everywhere in the city center. Buildings, streets, bridges, parks and more are constructed in Haussmannian style.

What is the Haussmannian style?

In the late 1800s Napoleon III thought it would be a good idea to renovate the city center of Paris. Medieval neighborhoods were teared down and new buildings arise. Mostly designed by architect and prefect of the Seine area in Paris, Georges-Eugène Haussmann. There is this interesting article on Wikipedia about Haussmann’s renovation of Paris. The unique watch is executed in an 18K 5N hand-engraved pink gold case, tonneau-shaped, and  measures 41.5 x 38 millimeters. It features a skeletonized dial with a tourbillon at 6 o’clock, with small seconds indication. There is a date counter between 1 and 2 o’clock and a power reserve indicator near 11 o’clock. The hours and minutes sit, off-centered, just above the tourbillon.

The automatic Vacheron Constantin caliber 2790 SQ, one of the ultra-thin movements presented by the brand, runs the Malte Tourbillon. Which is called that way because of the Maltese cross shape of the tourbillon, which is part the logo of VC. You cannot only see all the technical aspects on the front of the watch, the back is also sapphire The caliber 2790 SQ has a power reserve of 45 hours.

The Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers Malte Tourbillon also bears the high regarded Hallmark of Geneva. The watch comes on a brown mississippiensis alligator leather strap, with alligator leather inner shell. It is handstitched, has saddle-finish and large square scales, and is secured with an 18K 5N hand-engraved pink gold folding clasp.
