Four new Les Cabinotiers models are launched, named the Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers – Memorable Places. These one-off models honor the brand’s travels throughout the world in order to sell their watches. The Les Cabinotiers – Récits de Voyages series, meaning “travel stories”, memorize important places, styles and moments of Vacheron Constantin during their history of conquering the world with their watches.

An important part of their export went and goes to the Far East, especially China, where VC already set foot halfway the 1800s. Three of the four new models are a tribute to important historical architecture in the Far East, one in Switzerland. Each with a special dial. There is the entrance gate of the site of Angkor Thom in Cambodia. Then the former Chinese imperial Old Summer Palace, in China. And, also in China is the gate of the imperial College and Confucius Temple Museum in Beijing. The fourth Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers – Memorable Places depicts the Tour de l’Île building in Geneva. This is Vacheron Constantin’s historical headquarter and underlines the connection between VC’s base and the Far East.

The dial has engraved layers of gold to create a three-dimensional effect

The unique pieces with Far East connection are executed in a pink gold case, the Tour de l’Île model comes in white gold. All with a diameter of 40 millimeters and a thickness of 9.10 millimeters. These models only display the hours and minutes as it is all about the art on the dial. Well, and the Vacheron Constantin logo on top.

The plates that form the dial are between 0.4 and 0.8 millimeters thick. With that the engravings cannot exceed 1/10^th  up to 2/10^th of a millimeter in order to prevent the dial to become open-worked. The whole creation process takes about 200 hours for a single dial. The dials of the site of Angkor Thom and the Imperial Summer Palace in Beijing are also enriched with damascening. Which is a technique of ornamenting various metals into one another for more special effects as they tend to kind of blend. The result is a three-dimensional dial with stunning details. You can literally see people in front of the gate of Angkor Thom and on the bridge in front of the Tour de l’Île building.

The Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers – Memorable Places has a power reserve of 40 hours

Inside the Memorable Places models is an ultra-thin Vacheron Constantin caliber 1120. Which is also used in the Les Cabinotiers Grisaille High Jewellery Dragon. In that article we explain a little bit more about the thickness of the movement, and the history of thin movements by VC. This 1120 is originally from the 1960s and had a make-over in 2010.

The Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers – Memorable Places models come on a dark brown Mississippiensis alligator leather strap with alligator leather inner shells. It is handstitched, has saddle-finish with large square scales. And it is secured with an 18K 5N pink gold pin buckle.
