The 1970s were a stormy time in the mechanical watch world. You had a quartz crisis on your hands, but there was also a shock: high-end steel mechanical sports watches. The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph Steel-Gold is a flashback to this time.

Vacheron Constantin was a bit late because the first Overseas Chronograph came out in 1977. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (1972), IWC Ingenieur (1976) and Patek Philippe Nautilus (1976) were already on the market. It would be Vacheron’s first and only sports watch.

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph Steel-Gold is a little bit bigger than the model without chronograph

The new one is bolder with a 42.5-millimeter case instead of 40 millimeters. And it has a new in-house movement with the caliber 5200. This VC Overseas Chronograph has a stainless steel case and an 18-carat pink gold bezel.

The watch displays its functions on a translucent silver-toned lacquered dial. This model is fitted with a column wheel coordinating the chronograph start, stop and zero-reset functions. The vertical coupling clutch prevents any jolting of the hand when the chronograph starts.

The Overseas Chronograph Steel-Gold comes with a dark brown alligator strap and a dark brown rubber strap. No need for special tools, both the strap and bracelet feature tool-free interchangeability. This model is also available without chronograph: the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Steel-Gold with date (reference 4500V/000M-B127).
