The Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Tourbillon Retrograde Date Openface is another time piece by VC showing their love for retrograde hands when it comes to the date. Retrograde dates, so with a hand that sweeps back to the start position in stead of making a full turn, go back to the earlier days of Vacheron Constantin. And recently they released an Overseas and a Patrimony with retrograde date. Now it is time for the Traditionelle, in a rather special way.

The in-house caliber 2162 R31 automatic is partly open-worked and can be admired just under the date indications of the retrograde date.  A handmade 18k blackened gold hand with a white arrow tip points out the day. Yes, that hand is present, can be read at once, but it does not disturb the viewability of the time. As the hands of the hours and minutes are 18K 5N pink gold and provide a great contrast with the slate grey background.

At the bottom of the 41-millimeter 18k pink gold case there is the tourbillon which makes a full round every 60 seconds. The movement provides a power reserve of 72 hours and the case protects the movement up to 3 bar of water pressure.
